Community United Methodist Preschool Classrooms
Community United Methodist Preschool has two double-sized classrooms, an interactive hallway, and access to large meeting rooms for special events. We also utilize nearby area parks for outside learning and activities.
Our Main Classroom
The main classroom is set up with seven different learning centers: writing, math, art, science, sharing, manipulatives, and theme specific. There is also a children's reading area, felt/magnetic board, bathroom, and three distinct free play areas. Children spend most of their time in this classroom, and with its five large sunny windows - including one with an occupied birdhouse just inches from the glass outside - it's a warm, bright, and inviting space in which kids can learn and grow.
Large Motor Classroom
Our large motor classroom is an absolute favorite with students, and we spend some time in this room every day. Featuring a playhouse, scoot car, padded climbing area, rocking boat, belly scooters, balls, hoops, tunnels, balance board, large cars & trucks, and lots of open space to run, jump, and play. There is also a designated area with dollhouses, a separate area with matchbox car play sets, a water table, a sand table, and bean bag games. Of course that's just what's available on a regular day. Some days we push everything back and get out the parachute. Or maybe pull out the exercise mats and do a litte yoga. Or play some large group games - like duck, duck, goose, and the farmer in the dell. We also get out the musical instruments occasionally - to form our own marching band!
Interactive Hallway
As you enter the building and go up the stairs, you'll notice that the hallway isn't just for coats and backpacks. It's a separate, but distinct extension of our classroom. At the top of the stairs on the right, is our Star of the Week area - where each child is featured for a full week, becoming the "Star". To the left, is our Look What We've Been Doing Display - where the kid's artwork is displayed daily. Straight ahead, is the school information area - with basic info about our program and staff.
A row of lockers extends down the hall, and each child is assigned their own locker. Above the first set of lockers, is our Plan for the Week whiteboard - where you can see what's coming up, and check our daily news at the end of each day. Next is our Donation Tree. Located above the drinking fountain, parents can see what items (kleenex, empty paper towel tubes, pencils, etc) are currently needed by the preschool - and donate needed items if they so desire. Above the second set of lockers, are our Plumbs Tools for Schools and Campbell's Soup Labels Fundraising Center - get a Tools for Schools card to scan when you shop at Plumbs, or collect Campbell's Soup labels to help our program earn educational supplies. Over the third set of lockers, you'll find our What's Up Area - featuring monthly calendars, newsletters, and schedules.
Next, is a parent favorite. In the small area between the doors of our classrooms, is our Overheard In The Classroom board - where we post those 'oh so funny' comments children make sometimes. No need to worry, we only post the comment... we never reveal the source!
And finally, above the last set of lockers is our Student Photo Gallery - where class photos of former classes are posted, some dating back almost twenty years.
